Frontis
The Frontis collection are pieces that mean a lot to me, and have taken several years of experimentation to achieve the vision.
‘Frontis’ is a reference to the architectural ‘frontispiece’ of buildings - the decorative fronts that face the street or public space, to serve as a major architectural element and a representation of the building's character.
These works are influenced by architectural shapes and structures, and are constructed using clay slabs and coils, along with prolonged drying to ensure structural integrity.
Each piece is fired separately in a clay saggar with oxides, organic materials and other combustibles that provide the unpredictable fume colours and smoked surface markings.
As a result of this process, all pieces are unique, and many are fired multiple times to achieve the required depth of surface texture and effects.
